THREE COMMUNITY LEADERS INTO HALL OF FAME
Agency to also recognize Outstanding Community Partners and award five area youth college scholarships

KNOXVILLE, TN (May 13, 2018) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee (BBBS-ETN) will host its third annual Hall of Fame Induction and Scholarship Awards Celebration on Thursday, May 16, from 5:30-8 p.m.

Julie Hardin, Cari Parker, and Don Shawl will be recognized for their transformational impact on the organization. For the first time, the agency has also named four Outstanding Community Partner award recipients: Steve Madden, Moe’s Southwestern Grill, Aaron Walters & Altar’d State, and WBIR.

Alongside supporters and community leaders, the agency will celebrate graduating “Littles” receiving scholarships, most of whom are first-generation college students. Scholarship recipients include Bethany Hensley, Brianna Hensley, Ravin Hyatt, K’Vaughn Tyson, and Raven Woods.

A reception and Littles Art Gallery will be available prior to the awards ceremony.

Hall of Fame inductees include:

  • Julie Hardin served as Executive Director of BBBS-ETN from 1985-1994. Hardin launched the Tennessee International Wine Festival, expanded Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and significantly increased the organization’s revenue.
  • Cari Parker has been a Big Sister to numerous Littles over thirty years. Parker served for a decade on the Tri-Cities advisory council and helped lead the merger which created Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.
  • Don Shawl established the Bristol, Tennessee, BBBS agency in the 1980s. Shawl served as the vice-chair of the board of directors and recently funded BBBS-ETN’s literacy-based mentoring program, “Reading to Learn.”
