BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS HOSTS CAREER DAY FOR MARGINALIZED YOUTH
Event includes panel of diverse speakers and community leaders

KNOXVILLE, TN — (March 26, 2019) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee will hold its first Career Day event on Thursday, March 28.

Mentees, most of whom are first-generation college students, will receive recruitment materials from area universities.

Youth in attendance will also meet a number of professionals and community leaders as part of a career day panel. Panelists include a commercial pilot and former Little Brother; the COO of a SH Data Technologies; a business specialist from ORNL; and a crime scene technician.

After the panel, mentees—known as “Littles”—will have the opportunity to network with area business leaders.

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee ignites potential  in our Littles,” said Vice President of Programs Kara Finger. “The youth we serve have so many achievable aspirations, and this first-ever Career Day event will help them learn how to make those dreams a reality and ultimately reach their full potential.”

>> 5:30 p.m., Dinner with panelists and community leaders
>> 6:30-7:30 p.m., Knoxville business leaders panel
>> 7:30-8 p.m., Networking time for Littles and professionals

WHERE: The Regas Building, 318 N. Gay Street

WHO: Knoxville business and community leaders, middle and high school Littles, representatives from the Knoxville Area Mentoring Initiative (KAMI)

VISUALS: Middle and high school mentees networking with area business professionals; Community leaders serving on an interactive career panel; First-generation college students learning about post-secondary and career opportunities
