SUNTRUST FOUNDATION PROVIDES $5,000 GRANT
TO BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF EAST TENNESSEE
Funds will support BBBS-ETN Mentor 2.0 program at South Doyle High School
KNOXVILLE, TN– (April 30, 2019) – SunTrust Foundation has awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee a $5,000 grant in support of its Mentor 2.0 program.
BBBS-ETN’s Mentor 2.0 program, the only one of its kind in the state of Tennessee, is a technology-enriched, one-to-one youth mentoring initiative that focuses on college readiness and success for mentees, many of whom are first-generation college students.
“SunTrust Foundation’s support will help prepare students in our Mentor 2.0 program for lasting careers and job opportunities,” said BBBS-ETN CEO Brent Waugh. “These funds will improve the financial stability and earning potential of more than 150 marginalized youth by helping them graduate high school and pursue secondary education.”
Foundation funds directly support weekly lessons, technology-based college prep lessons, a secure digital platform for communication between mentors and mentees, and monthly in-person events planned and implemented by Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.
The Mentor 2.0 program aligns with SunTrust’s focus on financial well-being by helping at-risk high school students prepare for graduation, post-secondary education, and career success.
“SunTrust is committed to ensuring the well-being of children and youth in the markets we serve, understands the positive impact mentoring has on cultivating a child’s sense of purpose and accomplishment,” said Harry Gross, SunTrust Bank Knoxville President. “That’s why the SunTrust Foundation supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee in their efforts to instill confidence among at-risk youth.”
